The DirtBag Ball 2013 - 12th Annual - Glitter, Glam, and Gold

Every year the Crystal Mountain Ski Patrol puts on the DirtBag Ball.  Josh has gone to nearly every one, and I have made it to the last seven.  The costume theme used to just be dirtbag - look as trashy as possible, but over the last several years they have adopted a specific theme.  Previous themes have included:
  • "Anything but Clothes Goes" - I wore a skirt I made from a tarp and a shirt made from a drop cloth.  Josh wore a tyvek suit.
  • "Cowboys and Callgirls" - Josh got in trouble on this one, he told me it was Cowboys and Cowgirls, and I had a really difficult time with the Cowgirl costume.  Turns out he should have told me Callgirls, which I found out the day of the Ball.  I could have done the Callgirl costume much better, dressing like a Ho is simple!  I gave up and rocked a Rod Stewart t-shirt, a cowboy hat and a belt with pink plastic guns.  Josh wore his cowboy hat and flannel.
  • "If it isn't Neon, it Shouldn't be on": I wore the tarp skirt again, a bright yellow neon shirt with a silver owl on it, and a neon pink tank top underneath.  I was also liberally adorned with glow sticks.  Josh wore a yeti suit (so did our friend Sean), and a neon green "mankini" over that (Sean's mankini was pink). The Yeti suit was hilarious, but extremely warm.  Check out Josh - Front and Center.

This year was the 12th annual, and the theme was "Glitter, Glam, and Gold" - DirtBag Style.  Neither of us were excited about the theme, but when we first find out the theme, we never are.  I scoured the Supermall for something gold.  I ended up scoring at the Muraski Boutique, one of those Asian bridal/prom stores.  It was actually a really nice, well made dress.  But, it was gold, awful, and perfect!  I went for the hot mess prom queen approach.  Josh decided that this was his year to go Mexican.  He made his very own poncho, spray painted his sombrero gold, and added gold accent to some chaps from the costume store.  I think we did pretty well!

At the end of the night, I put my sweater on for the walk back to the camper.  Someone pointed out how much more spectacular the skirt is when you can't see the top half of the dress.  Pretty darn special.

For the past two years Crystal has provided an awesome photo booth, and you can pick a few that you like and print them out for free.  We love this feature!

We always end up with a great big group of us, which makes it extra fun.  The guys always seem to adopt some sort of goofy personality for pictures.

Laura and I went in the booth for a couple of pics with just the two of us.  Two random people jumped in the photo with us.  It wasn't until later that we realized that only 1 person ended up staying for the actual picture.  We don't know this guy...which is why this is a great pic!

Another part of the Ball is the annual raffle.  A couple years ago we entered and won a pair of gloves and a pair of socks, the socks are my favorite pair, and the gloves are great for the Spring.  This year, we entered into the raffle, and we haven't picked them up yet, but we won a pair of gloves and a pair of socks!  It doesn't get much better than that!

Now if we can just find a way to wear our outfits again...Happy DirtBag Ball!
